Silly Things

Recently we have a project to bake biscuits. The formulation specifies the use of ammonium bicarbonate which according to good old wikipedia can be replaced by baking soda. But whilst I was waiting for my other sample to arrive I thought i'll order it anyway, woudln't hurt right.

So I called up xxx company asking for 50-100g sample and this is what I got.
"hm sorry we've ran out of our samples, but I have gotten permission to give you a 25kg bag"
" say what? 25kg? I don't need that much, you can just give me a little bit from that 25kg"
"no sorry, we dont' do that here, we can only give you 25kg"
"er... sure... if you don't mind"

And upon thinking about this after I hang up the phone, I realized how ridiculous this all was. 25kg is HUGE, cramping it into my already limited space storage is a pain. Not to mention that it would take us 100+ years to finish that amount of sample! and I am sure it's not the type of chemical that you can just chuck into the bin. So anyway.. cancelled the sample and just stick to baking soda in the end. Isn't that funny how ppl would actually give away 25kg of things... for free... plus delivery, to someone whom they obviously know won't ever buy that sort of stuff from them... oh well~~ Nice for them to help anyway.


In other news... I have been branded... with a letter "F". So the story goes I found I had a little cut (infected I might add) the other day which I have no idea where or how I got it. But as I examined it closely, it's like perfectly shaped like the letter F. Like honestly, I am talking about sharp right angles.... Random right?

Seems like an odd place to stop here, but heck, got nothign else interesting! That's all folks... for now! :)

Conference

Yes I know I haven't been updating.. I am not good at updating my blogs now~~ What can I say, life is keeping me busy.

Had to say a lot of goodbyes lately, I think I have come to a point where ppl around me finally has the ability to go and explore anywhere they want. A bit sadden by all these but what else can I say except to wish them best of luck? and secretly hope that they'll be back. *nod nod*

Anyway, went on a 3 day NZIFST conference last week which was held in Rotorua. That would've been my officially first ever business trip!! That sure was exciting! Especially when I know I'll see quite a few of my uni friends there. It was also a great opportunity to put some client's names to faces. I've been developing/sending samples to these ppl and it's really great to finally get to meet them. I have to say however, there were very few of our clients actually present at the conference. Given the topic this year is out sustainability, and that is mostly irrelevant to most product developmentalist, for the most part all we saw was heaps of ppl from the dairy and meat industry. It was definate a mission trying to get exposure to potential clients when you find out they run a slaughterhouse, or at one point I was talking to a guy who works at a company that produces filters?!?!?

The presentations, or sessions were mostly very boring, with a few exceptions of course! Saw 3 our of 4 UoA students presenting? including Christine! I think all of them did very well, and trust me, some of the questions they got asked were not easy! I thoroughly enjoyed all of them! Well done girls! The sessions on sustainability were.... er..... well... totally irrelevant and almost falling asleep boring. The only interesting fact I picked up from it is how the carbon emission of most products sold in UK had a lot less carbon emission than the same products produced in UK, even when taken into the account of freights. It's amazing how energy consuming chilled storage is! and also how efficient NZ can manufacture our products.

Other than that, it was great fun catchign up with all the uni friends. It was the first time Hui, Christine and I were at the same place! Then there were all the Massey classmates, which I think contributed to half of the FGTP ppl. It really did feel like a big reunion for me! :)

OH~~ and I got to stayed at my own hotel room! on a king size bed (which might as well been a single since I didn't even touch the other half....) It was definately a very nice hotel, got everything a person could ever need from a hotel. Though, first time staying at a hotel by myself, I had to turned the TV on most of the time to kill the silence :P

Anyway, conference was loads of fun! hope my boss will be nice and send me next year which is gonna be held at Christchurch!
